Aviation Regulations
In order to fly any drone over 25kg in Australia you need to be licensed.
Drone licensing comprises of two elements – The Remote Pilot License (RePL), and the Remote Operator’s Certificate (ReOC).
Remote Pilot License
The Remote Pilot License (RePL) is the first step for any future drone operator. Awarded by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA), the RePL is a nationally recognised pilot’s license for the operation of unmanned aircraft.
During your RePL training you will complete theory lessons on aviation safety, regulations and drone technology. Once the theory is complete a one-day practical course will teach you the basic of operating a drone safely.
RePL training is offered through FPV Australia with courses running regularly throughout the year.

RePL Endorsements
Achieving your Remote Pilot License is only the first stage in your qualifications! Once you can safely operate a drone the weighs less than 7kg, your new-found skills will be put to the test as you progress to larger and more complex aircraft.
A 25kg endorsement will teach you how to safely control a larger drone before you step up to the 150kg weight class and a type rating on the platform of your choice.
NOTE: You will require a type rating for every model of drone over 25kg that you intend to operate.
Remote Operator’s Certificate
The Remote Operator’s Certificate (ReOC) is what allows you to operate a drone commercially. It shows that a company or sole trader has the necessary policies and procedures in place to operate safely within the regulations of CASR (1998) Part 101.
If you wish to use your above 25kg machine on other people’s land, as say a contractor etc, then you will likely also need the ReOC.
FPV Australia, can assist in this process by creating your manuals and help guide you to becoming the Chief Remote Pilot of your own organisation.
